FAQ - Ottawa

Bookings & Inquiries

What's the minimum age to throw?
The minimum age to throw with us is 13. Ages 13-16 must have an adult present to supervise, but the adult does not need to throw, just watch. There is also a different waiver for minors, which requires the signature of the adult supervisor - you can find that here.
Do you serve alcohol? Can we bring alcohol?
You may not bring your own alcohol. LumberJaxe is proud to offer you beer, cider and wine available for purchase.
Can we bring food?
Yes! Our ‘little bites’ menu provides tasty hot appetizers to keep the hunger at bay while you throw axes, but if you’re looking for a full meal, we recommend bringing in your own catering. We don’t charge any plating fee, but you’ll have to do your own legwork in finding food for your crew. Need some extra help deciding on what to eat? Reach out and we can help find you the food you want for a small added fee.

LumberJaxe Questions

What should I expect with LumberJaxe?
At LumberJaxe, we don’t just hand you an axe and say “good luck”. You’ll be provided with an expert coach to help you learn how to throw safely and successfully. Then we get into games! We’ve got a whole games book from games perfect for pairs (Around the World), to a tournament set up and run by your coach. Mastered your competitive throw? We’ve got tons of trick shots to try also. We do our best to tailor the experience to each group.
How far in advance do I need to book?
We recommend booking one week in advance. For larger groups, booking 2-4 weeks ahead of time is highly recommended. Our venue is small, and fills up quickly! For same day reservations, please call 613-702-8095.
Can I bring my underage child?
Although the minimum age to throw with us is 13, children under 13 may enter the facility so long as they're supervised by the adults in their group
I don't want to throw. Can I still come watch?
Absolutely, but you’ll still need to fill out a waiver like all other patrons.
How long do I book for?
Depends on the number of people! For groups of 2-4, 1 hour is often enough. For groups larger than 5 we highly recommend 90 minutes or two hours, which allows time for safety, training, coaching, games, tournaments, trick shots, and more! We take pride in tailoring the experience to what you're most interested in. If you'd like to stay longer, we're happy to extend your stay if our availability allows.
Do I have to make a reservation?
No, but we’re a small place that fills up quickly! We don’t mix different groups on the lanes. You’re welcome to try to walk-in, but we can’t guarantee any availability without advance booking. Give us a call at (613) 702-8095 to check availability at the front desk.
Is their Parking Available?
City Centre offers free parking for the first 1.5 hours (please note that you still need to enter your license plate information and obtain a ticket, but you will not be charged for the first 1.5 hours) There is also free street parking (3 hours maximum).
I love this, how do I do it more?
Join our Leagues! Available Wednesday and Sundays. You can also check out our tournament/events page.

Large Bookings

Why can’t I get a discount for my group of X size?
At LumberJaxe, we don’t just hand you an axe and say “good luck”. Based on your group size, we will devote more staff to ensure everyone is being safe, succeeding at axe throwing (sticking axe in the wood), and having fun playing games and completing a tournament! If you bring more people, we assign more staff, and the quality of the event stays at the top! As such, we can’t offer any discounts for groups fewer than 30.
Can we stay after the throwing time has finished?
We would love to accommodate you, but often (particularly on busy days like Friday and Saturdays) we simply don’t have the space for large groups after their bookings. Please let us know in advance if you want to stay beyond your scheduled throwing time, and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
What catering options are available?
Our ‘little bites’ menu provides tasty hot appetizers to keep the hunger at bay while you throw axes, but if you’re looking for a full meal, we recommend bringing in your own catering. We don’t charge any plating fee, but you’ll have to do your own legwork in finding food for your crew. Need some extra help deciding on what to eat? Reach out and we can help find you the food you want for a small added fee.
Is LumberJaxe Accessible?
Yes! Our main entrance is up a set of stairs, but we have a wheelchair accessible entrance in the back. It can be tricky to locate, so feel free to give us a call and we can help guide you.

What if I’ve done this before and I don’t want to do X?

No, each axe weighs between 2-3lbs. We do have a variety of styles, and we'll find the one that best suits you!
What should I wear?
Closed toe shoes are a must. Wear comfortable, non-restricting clothes.
What options do you have for people with limited abilities?
Axe throwing is a great sport for anyone and does not rely on the strength or speed of a person. Focus on technique and follow through and with a little practice, you’ll be sticking the axe in no time.
Can I bring my own axe?
Maybe! The axe must be inspected and approved by the Manager. LumberJaxe reserves the right to refuse the use of any axe that does not meet the safety requirements.
